At 1617 Rockville Pike in Congressional Plaza, the line for Mango Mango House of Desserts has stretched out the door and down the sidewalk since opening day. Rockville Nights reported on Sept. 29 that people were waiting 45 minutes to more than an hour for smoothies and crepe cakes. No Rockville opening this season has drawn more attention, and it is a dessert shop that opens at noon.
That fits the season as a whole. Four new Rockville businesses have confirmed openings since mid-September, and three of them serve desserts or coffee. The fourth, a kabob restaurant, is still in its soft opening. That changes how this fall's openings are best used. They are the stop after a car show, a nature-center Halloween night, or a 7:30 curtain, not dinner itself. Rockville's own calendar is full of those events through Nov. 21.
What actually opened, and what is still behind paper
Status matters here, because several Rockville storefronts have had "coming soon" signs up for weeks. As of Oct. 12, 2026:
| Business | Address | What it serves | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mango Mango House of Desserts | 1617 Rockville Pike, Congressional Plaza | Smoothies, crepe cakes | Open; noon–10 p.m. Mon–Thu, noon–11 p.m. Fri–Sat |
| MangoLina | Shell station, 2240 Veirs Mill Rd. | Dessert truck | Debuted Sept. 14 |
| Bogotá Coffee House | 115 N. Washington St. | Colombian coffee | Opened Sept. 24; 7 a.m.–7 p.m. daily |
| ZiZa Kabob | 1675 Chapman Ave., Twinbrook Quarter | Afghan kabobs | Soft opening; grand opening Oct. 17 |
| Always Ice Cream | 11802 Rockville Pike, Pike & Rose | Ice cream | "Opening Fall 2026" |
| Just Salad | 12242 Rockville Pike, Towne Plaza | Salads | No opening date announced |
| Hong Kong Tea House | 605 Hungerford Dr. | Milk teas, fruit teas, Chinese street food | Announced; opening not confirmed |
The pending list shows the same pattern. Always Ice Cream is a Maryland company that makes more than 250 handcrafted flavors in the state. Most of its scoop shops are around Annapolis, and Pike & Rose is part of its move into Montgomery County. Hong Kong Tea House's announced menu leans toward milk teas, fruit teas, Vietnamese coffee, smoothies and desserts, though it also lists Chinese street foods from several regions. Just Salad at Towne Plaza, next to the Wonder food hall, has its permanent signage up. The MoCo Show reported on Oct. 8 that it will be Maryland's first location, and that "an opening date has not yet been announced." Bogotá Coffee House adds a morning option downtown. It keeps the same 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. hours every day, and its décor is designed to feel like Colombia's capital.
The opening hours are what make these places useful this fall. Mango Mango stays open until 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, which is later than almost every event on the city's fall calendar runs.
Saturday, Oct. 17 is the most crowded day of the season
Three things land on one Saturday, at three different times of day:
- 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Rockville Antique and Classic Car Show fills Glenview Mansion and Rockville Civic Center Park at 603 Edmonston Drive. Admission is free for spectators.
- 1 p.m. ZiZa Kabob holds its grand opening at Twinbrook Quarter, with food samples, a DJ and "a celebration of Afghan culture and food," according to The MoCo Show. This is the restaurant's first Montgomery County location. It opened without table service during the soft opening and plans to add full service later. Two hours of free garage parking are available every day.
- 6 to 8 p.m. Croydon Creep runs at Croydon Creek Nature Center, 852 Avery Road. Games, treats, crafts, magic, balloon twisters and a campfire are inside the center, and those activities are free with no registration. Children ages 5 to 12 can also take a 30-minute guided forest hike that is "non-spooky," leaving every 15 minutes from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Hikes need advance tickets, which cost $10 for residents and $12 for nonresidents.
Croydon Creep ends at 8 p.m., and Mango Mango is open for three more hours after that. A family can fit a car show, a grand-opening DJ set with food samples, a campfire and a crepe cake into one Saturday, all at places that opened this season or events on the city's calendar.
The rest of October runs on the city's Halloween schedule
The City of Rockville's Halloween lineup, published Oct. 1, splits by age group across the following two weeks. Registration is at rockvillemd.gov/registration.
- Sunday, Oct. 18, 3 to 6 p.m. Trick or Treat at The Square, 36 Maryland Ave., with face painting, a DJ and treat stops at participating businesses.
- Friday, Oct. 23, 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Halloteen Bash at Thomas Farm Community Center, 700 Fallsgrove Drive, a haunted carnival for grades 6 through 8. It is free for residents and $10 for nonresidents.
- Saturday, Oct. 24, 9:30 or 11 a.m. Mini-Creep at Croydon Creek Nature Center for ages 2 to 5. It costs $12 for residents and $15 for nonresidents.
- Wednesday, Oct. 28, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Doggie Halloween Extravaganza at Elwood Smith Community Center, 601 Harrington Road. Costumes are suggested, and dogs should be comfortable around other dogs and people. It costs $20 for residents and $25 for nonresidents.
- Friday, Oct. 30, 7 to 9 p.m. Monster Mash Halloween Dance at Twinbrook Community Recreation Center, 12920 Twinbrook Parkway, with pumpkin decorating and dancing for all ages. It costs $5. Masks and costume props, including sticks and swords, are not allowed.
The ice rink at Rockville Town Square opens around the same time, but the exact first day is unclear. The Square's trick-or-treat listing includes "the opening of the ice skating rink" in its Oct. 18 event. Visit Montgomery's rink listing, updated Oct. 7, gives the season start as Oct. 19. Once it is running, the rink is listed as open until 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Online admission is $12 for ages 13 and up and $11 for children 12 and under and seniors, and skate rental is $6. Walk-up admission costs $1 more for ages 13 and up.
The Rockville Science Center is the weekday option. Its afterschool Engineering Marvels series for ages 7 to 12 meets Oct. 30 and Nov. 6, 13 and 20 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at 130 Rollins Ave., Suite F-2. The Oct. 16 school-holiday session was already sold out when the page was checked.
November moves indoors, and Glenview turns 100
Glenview Mansion is celebrating its 100th anniversary as a historic landmark this year, and the centennial's November events are set in 1926. A Taste for Murder Productions is staging "Funeral for a Gangster" by Eileen Moushey. The audience attends a secret sendoff for mob boss Vito "The Gut" Marzetti at a speakeasy called Ruby's Place while his widow searches for his hidden fortune. Performances are Nov. 6 and 7 at 8 p.m. and Nov. 7 and 8 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $40, or $35 for students and seniors. The optional buffet package is $70, or $65 for students and seniors, and matinees serve brunch. Guests who come in Roaring Twenties costumes can enter for a prize.
On Nov. 12 at 7 p.m., Peerless Rockville presents a lecture at Glenview on Maryland's 1864 Constitution, according to the city's October Rockville Reports.
The F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre's fall schedule runs alongside the centennial:
| Date | Show | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Fri, Oct. 23 | The Fleetwood Mac Experience | 7:30 p.m. |
| Oct. 31; Nov. 6, 7, 13, 14 | Rockville Musical Theatre, "Caroline, or Change" | 7:30 p.m. |
| Nov. 1, 8, 15 | Rockville Musical Theatre, "Caroline, or Change" | 2 p.m. |
| Wed, Nov. 18 | Swan Lake: Symphony of Lights | 7 p.m. |
| Sat, Nov. 21 | Washington Balalaika Society, "Winter is Coming!" | 8 p.m. |
Most of the "Caroline, or Change" evening shows fall on Fridays and Saturdays. On those nights, the 7:30 curtain and Mango Mango's 11 p.m. closing leave room for dessert after the show.
Two dates end the season
The Rockville Farmers Market runs Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Jury Parking Lot at Route 28 and Monroe Street. Its last market is Nov. 21. On those same Saturday mornings, Bogotá Coffee House on N. Washington Street opens at 7 a.m. The Balalaika Society's 8 p.m. show at the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre falls on the same Nov. 21.
After that, the next fixed date is The Square's tree lighting on Friday, Dec. 4, from 6 to 9 p.m. Always Ice Cream and Just Salad still have no announced opening dates, so that weekend is the next point to check which of them have opened.
